	STS-71 was the first docking of an American Space Shuttle to the Russian Mir Space Station. Atlantis performed crew rotation for Mir (see Crew below). During shuttle undocking maneuvers the Russian cosmonauts undocked their Soyuz spacecraft from Mir, and Mir, Atlantis, and the Soyuz performed a three-spacecraft ballet in orbit.

The crew of Mir 19 was carried aloft aboard Atlantis to relieve the crew of Mir 18. The crew of Mir 18 was returned to Earth aboard Atlantis at the conclusion of their mission.
